All the little things that irritate you and sap your energy add up to more stress. These situations are called Tolerations. It could be a piece of carpet you trip over every day or, as one IT VP realized, it was the cord she would trip over in her office that would unplug her computer and make her lose her work once a week. One of my examples is a colleague on the East Coast that I hadn’t reminded that we were in different time zones, who kept waking me up at 5 in the morning on my home office phone.
By standing back and examining all the areas of your life, you can create an accounting of all your Tolerations, and work to eliminate them, so that you can live and work in a less stressful environment.
