Recommended Reading for Life Improvement

The Art of Possibility My clients and friends who have read this book have transformed the way they look at life. They see the limitless possibilities, they are inspired to be more, and they learn to harness their passion for more success.

Man’s Search for Meaning: Reading this book will help you be a better person.  Through his horrific experience in a concentration camp, Viktor Frankl discovered that those who had hope for the future, were more likely to survive.  He shares his experiences and helps us apply what he has learned at Auschwitz to our lives so that we can be happier.

Authentic Happiness: Martin Seligman teaches us how to find more meaning in life through using our Signature Strengths in our work and avocations.  He also shares ways to increase the pleasure in our lives.  Read this book if you want to apply strategies to your life to be happier.

The Soul of Money: Lynne was an Executive for The Hunger Project for over 20 years and has worked alongside Mother Theresa and the Dalai Lama.  Lynne states:  “Money has become a playing field where we measure our competence and worth as people. . . . This relationship with money is a deeply conflicted one, and our behavior with and around money is often at odds with our most deeply held values, commitments, and ideals – what I call our soul.”

The Four Agreements:  “Dreaming,” author Don Miguel Ruiz argues, “is the main function of the mind.”  I agree and the four agreements (that follow) changed my life:

  • Be Impeccable With Your Words
  • Don’t Take Anything Personally
  • Don’t Make Assumptions
  • Always Do Your Best

Sabbath:  This book has been very good for me because it discusses the need to rest and how vital rest is to our creativity and quality of life.

How to Say No, Without Feeling Guilty: So many of my clients don’t live the life they want to live because they can’t say no to their boss, their co-workers, their family, and their friends.  Read this book if you want to take control and live the life you’ve always wanted to live.

The Third Age:  Discover the six principles of growth and renewal after 40.  Transform the way you live today and the way you view your future.  Embrace a new model for living the second half of your life.  Be the best you can be in the “third age.”

Attitudes of Gratitude: Being grateful is one of the most important ways to increase your happiness. In a series of essays, this book gives concrete ideas for how to increase your sense of gratitude and therefore your sense of joy.

The Five Languages of Love:Even though we love our life partners, we may not communicate in a way that makes them feel loved.  This book will help you communicate in a way that will help the important people in your life truly hear how you.

Music For Relaxation

Facing Future: Beautiful, relaxing Hawaiian music that my masseuse plays while I get a massage.  Iz’s version of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” is haunting and was part of the sound track for “50 First Dates.”

Ocean Light:  Paul Michael Meredith is the master of relaxing, evocative music.  Using harps, keyboards, percussion, and natural sounds Mr. Meredith paints musical pictures that let your mind float away from the stress of daily life.

Chakra Suite: I play this music to get relaxed before I coach.  My clients often here it as they enter my office. It sets the mood for introspection and makes me feel peaceful.

Awakening:  This is piano music to relax to, while sitting by the fire with a cup of chamomile tea.

Grief

I wasn't ready

I wasn’t ready to say GoodbyeHave you suffered the death of someone close to you?  I know I have, and I didn’t have the skills to cope with it.  Our parents don’t teach us how to grieve or how to survive such a loss.  This book written by two women who have experienced sudden loss will touch, comfort, uplift and console you. It has helped many of my clients and friends, and it has helped me.I Wasn’t Ready to Say Goodbye covers how to deal with the first few weeks after a death, grief, funerals and rituals, physical effects (which I had no idea could be so profound), and depression. And it gives common sense advice for how to navigate through the process of surviving a deep loss and putting your life back together.
